November 2024 Newsletter

Dear Gweek Classic Boatyard Community,

With the festive season fast approaching we just wanted to send everyone a quick update for the winter storage season. Firstly can we thank our returning and new customers for choosing to come to Gweek Classic Boatyard, we have nearly lifted all boats booked into the yard and we are now concentrating on pressure washing – we are working through the list as quickly as we can.

We do have a few spaces left, they are filling up fast but if you need some storage space for a boat then please do get in touch.

Can we please remind everyone to:

  • Remove all sails and dodgers and ensure spray hoods are removed or lowered to allow minimum resistance to the wind.

  • Ensure the area under your boat is clear. If we experience any high winds or high tides it can be a danger (any tenders stored must be agreed by the yard/office).

  • If you have put a cover onto your boat please ensure it is secured correctly and DO NOT tie anything to your boat stands or chocking.

  • If you would like electric and have not yet organised with us please speak to the office. Please do not unplug another boat even if it is just for a short time – this causes issues so please be mindful.

  • We are not able to provide ladders so please provide your own labelled ladder. Ensure it is safely tied on but able to be removed if required.

  • When visiting the yard please be mindful of how you park, ensure people/vehicles can get past/do not block access or park on the slipway as access is required even away from high tide times. Do pop into the office or find someone on the yard if you are not sure.

Tide Tables

We are in the process of getting our 2025 tide tables printed ready to send out – to ensure you receive your Christmas card and copy please make sure we have your up to date address. If you think yours has changed then please do send an email to info@gweekquay.co.uk and we will get it updated on our system.

Contractors

We are happy to welcome any contractors onto the yard to work on your boat. The office must have been provided with their Public Liability insurance and if they require keys we need to be notified that you are happy for us to pass them over.

If there are any jobs you would like to organise please do email the specifics to info@gweekquay.co.uk and we will endeavour to assist.

Dogs on the yard

We are happily a dog friendly yard and the café also welcomes dogs, however please be mindful to clear up after your dog – if you need additional poo bags we have some in the office that we are happy to let you have. We have had an increase in dog mess and this needs to be addressed: people live on and work on their boats and with the darker evenings people will not always be able to see what is underfoot.

You must also remember when on the yard to keep your dog on a lead at all times. This is firstly so you can know where they are, but also for safety reasons. There is a lot of equipment being used on the yard, boats being moved and other members of the public who may not like dogs and therefore for everyone’s safety and happiness we ask for you to keep your dog under control and on a lead at all times. There are walks very close by where you can let your dog off the lead for a good run if needs be.

Insurance

Please ensure we have an up-to-date copy of your boat insurance in the office: please email to info@gweekquay.co.uk if you have recently renewed your policy. With storm season possibly around the corner it is important that you have adequate cover in case of any damage by the wind or storms as this is not something our insurance would cover for you – your insurance would need to be claimed against.

Holiday lets

You will see we are moving forward with the holiday lets and hope to have some more news and pictures to share when they are finished.

We have received a grant from the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Growth Hub that contributed towards creating a rentable space. It is 28 square meters of eco office which will develop a derelict building here on the yard. The space can be utilised from the New Year: we would love to hear from anyone who is interested in renting this space and we are keen to promote start-up or growing businesses. We are a busy working boatyard but with the introduction of the holiday lets over the next season there will be an increased footfall to the yard, beneficial to any business wishing to work from Gweek.

We would like to take this chance to say thank you to all the staff for their hard work this year and to thank all our customers for your support.

Kind regards,

Malcolm & Maria Beaton
