Dutch Barge 84ft Houseboat [SOLD]

£10,000 [SOLD]

1957 Dutch Barge houseboat available for sale. We are excited to to be offering a unique opportunity to own this 1957 Humber Keel Grain Barge - ‘Classic Lass’ - which has an interesting history.

Classic Lass was featured on season 3 of the Channel 5 documentary with George Clark, Build a New Life in the Country where they followed the conversion of Classic Lass from a rusty old barge into a very comfortable houseboat.

Her then owners sold her 9 years ago to a craftsman who after a pouring a lot of money (receipts to prove) and time into giving Classic Lass a new lease of life has had to give her up for personal reasons.

She is currently looking tired on the outside, but inside wouldn't take too much work to turn her into a very comfortable 2 bedroom houseboat once more. While she does have an engine and steering gear, they are not currently in a serviceable condition.

We have a wet survey from 2011 available for interested parties to view in our office.  For Classic Lass to remain on the yard she would need to have a new full survey.

Inside has lovely oak flooring, a bespoke oak kitchen with a large range cooker, and a lovely bathroom with a roll top bath and marble flooring. Her current layout also gives two double bedrooms and an office, with a huge living room sporting a large log burner.

There is so much potential she has to be viewed to be appreciated.

We have residential moorings available separately.

Breakdown of costs

One-off Costs

  • Boat Purchase - £10,000

  • Boat Survey & Dry Dock £8,500-£10,000 approx with a 1 month waiting period

  • Tow to & from Penzance £10,000

  • 12 Year Residential Mooring £22,500 – if returning

  • £10,000 bond – if returning (explained below)

If you wish to return and take up the residential mooring at Gweek Classic Boatyard the caveats are:

  • The boat would need its ticket for wreck removal insurance cover before being able to return to the boatyard.

  • There will also be a £10,000 bond security held against the external works. You would use this to pay for materials and/or tradesman.

  • We would require a schedule for renovating the exterior of the boat and to make that a priority for being carried out first.

Please contact the office at Gweek Classic boatyard for further information or to arrange a viewing.
